Premier League - Football: Erling Haaland 14/1 to score 35+ next season for Man City

13 June 2022 05:20:49 EST

Andy Cole and Alan Shearer both managed 34 goals when winning their respective Premier League Golden Boots in the mid-90s and bet365 are 14/1 about Erling Haaland scoring 35 or more and 3/1 he finishes top of the scoring charts in his first season in English football after his move to Manchester City.

At 3/1 to outscore the likes of seasoned campaigners such as Mo Salah and Harry Kane, we clearly think that Haaland will strike fear into many a Premier League defence next season.

Surpassing the mammoth totals of such legends as Cole and Shearer, especially doing it in 38 games instead of 42, would be an incredible start to life in the Premier League.

Having burst onto the scene as a 19-year-old for RB Salzburg, Haaland scored 11 goals in the first seven league games of his first full campaign in Austria and was quickly catapulted into the footballing stratosphere.

His maiden Champions League campaign saw him notch eight goals in the group stages, including three against Napoli and one at Anfield, at a rate of a goal every 37 minutes across his first five games.

Sure enough, he quickly attracted attention of Europe’s top clubs, being snapped up in January by Borussia Dortmund for just £18m, albeit with a reported £63m release clause inserted into his contract.

The step up to the German Bundesliga didn’t present any problems – you may recall Haaland scoring a hat-trick on his debut and a brace in his next game, both of which were from the bench.

He’d score two more Champions League goals in the first leg against PSG, before being knocked out by the eventual runners-up, and scoring 11 league goals in 15 appearances at a rate of a goal every 82 minutes.

The following season saw him surpass the legendary Ronaldo’s Champions League goal tally. Despite all his goals in Serie A, La Liga and even the World Cup, the Brazilian only managed 16 goals in 42 appearances – Haaland reached 16 in just 12 games, going on to score a brace in his 13th appearance.

The league was a similar story, scoring 27 league goals in 28 games, despite a torn hamstring which kept him out of action for a month.

Last season saw the Norwegian hit his 50th Bundesliga goal on his 60th Bundesliga game, scoring 18 in 21 across the campaign  – though, if there is any cause for concern for Pep Guardiola, it may be the three injuries that kept him out of action for 16 games last season.

He doesn’t have the near-ever presence of a 33-year-old Robert Lewandowski, and has suffered a somewhat concerning number of injuries across his time in Germany.

In Haaland’s defence, it may well be symptomatic of the club rather than the player, considering the litany of injuries Dortmund suffered last season.

But for as long as he stays injury-free, City may well have a generational talent on their hands, who has the world at his feet.
