NFL - US Sports: Kupp hopes to welcome Beckham back

05 June 2022 05:56:11 EST
Cooper Kupp is hoping to re-form his partnership with Odell Beckham Jr

Cooper Kupp says he would love to play alongside Odell Beckham Jr again next season and says that goes for "the guys across the board" at the Los Angeles Rams.

Kupp and Beckham formed one of the most dynamic receiver duos in the NFL after the latter was released by the Cleveland Browns midway through last season, helping the Rams - 11.00 to retain the Lombardi Trophy - to glory in Super Bowl LVI.

Beckham glory clouded by injury

The 29-year-old Beckham Jr scored his first-ever play-off touchdown in the Rams' Wild Card game win over the Arizona Cardinals and then had nine catches for 113 yards in their 20-17 NFC Championship win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Although he also scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl and eventually got a ring, his fairy-tale ending was spoiled by an ACL injury in the second quarter.

Four months later he remains an unsigned free agent and, although a return to Hollywood would still seem like a great fit for all parties, there can never be any certainty in the NFL.

Kupp, who took the Super Bowl MVP honours after February's 20-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, remains in close contact with the ex-New York Giants star and believes it "would just be the coolest thing" if OBJ returns to the Rams.

Kupp hails influence of Beckham

"Just as a person, as a team-mate, how he was in our building, I would absolutely love nothing more than to just be able to have him come back and be a part of what we're building here," Kupp told ESPN's First Take.

"I talk to him daily, being able to keep up with him. Would love to have him back. There's a lot of stuff that has to be worked through because of how terrible the unfortunate situation where he was gonna have an unbelievable game that Super Bowl.

"But would absolutely love to have him back and I know our receiver room, I know the guys across the board would love to have him back in our building."
